Painting an Old Wood Dresser, part 1

Painting a wood dresser – Before and after.

Through the years, we’ve had many requests to paint suites of mismatched furniture, especially for children’s rooms in the process of being repainted for a fresh look.

Once upon a time, this dresser was the height of fashion. With it’s curved upper drawers and tiger maple veneer, it must have been a beautiful sight. However, the years were unkind. With missing moldings, water marks, cigarette burns, wax spills, chips and cracks the dresser had lost it’s former glory.

With the help of many hours of sanding, wood putty and a new installation of complimentary moldings, the dresser was ready to be sprayed with a couple coats of oil based primer. After another sanding and some more putty, it was ready for it’s final finish – 2 coats of oil based, high gloss paint. Afterward, with the installation of it’s pale green and chrome drawer pulls, you can see the phenomenal change to a like new dresser, with a pretty look and a high quality, durable finish to last many years.
